About Giorgio Castiglioni
He was born in Somma Lombardo, a small city northwest of Italy and at 13 years of age Giorgio started in the hospitality industry working as a Squinizzo (gofer) in a local restaurant. During this time he learned many aspects of the restaurant business.
His passion and love for food and beverages encouraged him to study in the renowned Hotel School "E Maggia" of Stresa on the shores of the stunning Lago Maggiore where he obtained a diploma in Hotel Management, specializing in Food and Beverage.
The restaurant industry was able to give him the opportunity to learn more of the international trade so he spent a few years in England to learn English by working as Chef de Rang and assistant Maitre'D.
After traveling Europe for some time he decided to explore North America and worked as a Wine Steward and Manager in several high end resorts, hotels and restaurants in Bermuda, the US and Canada, During his years in the hospitality industry Giorgio had the opportunity to serve several personalities such as Ronald Regan, Margaret Thatcher, Giulio Andreotti, Robert Plant, Clint Eastwood, Brian Mulroney and some members of the British Royal Family. In 1993 he relocated to Vancouver where he worked as a wine importer specializing in Italian wines. He quickly became one of the catalysts of the Italian wine category in Western Canada.
Giorgio's strong belief in education prompted him to organize seminars, wine tasting and educational events for Italian wines to the hospitality industry. His passion and the need to create a place for Italian wines lovers everywhere was the inspiration for developing Italian Vino Network ......an Italian wine club for all wine lovers.
